If you want to do business on the Internet you will ideally need your own web presence or website. Anything from a simple one page sales letter to a full blown e-commerce enabled web store can be catered for. If you don't already have one, you will also need to register a domain name for your site and host this with a hosting company, such as these here- we use Third Sphere Hosting, we have found them most helpful whenever we have encountered a problem or come across something that we did not understand. Whilst there are loads of dirt cheap hosting offers around, some even offering free web space. However, as is the way in life, you often find that you get what you pay for. If you are new to all this website building and hosting stuff you may be better off in the early days to host your site with a company that offers that all important helping hand and support when needed. I'm affraid you need to be pretty self sufficient and knowledgable with many of the so called free sites as support is a little thin. I don't know about you, but to me, an extra few bucks a month is well worth it for the peace of mind it offers me.
Also take a look at the Webmaster's Toolbox Page for a few more tools to help you to build your site. If you are just starting out you will not need a dedicated server so don't even bother looking at these options - a vertual server or shared space should be ample to meet your needs.
